Perfect for Trekkers & Adventurers
The Lingzhi mushroom or Reishi mushroom, literally meaning "soul" or "spirit" mushroom, is a species complex that encompasses several fungal species of the genus Ganoderma.
Lingzhi enjoys special veneration in East Asia, where it has been used by herbalists for more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest mushrooms recorded in history.
The Reishi mushroom is found in nature on plum trees. However, it is extremely rare and almost impossible to find in this manner.
For this reason, it was deemed as priceless and only used by royalty in China and Japan for thousands of years.
In the early 1970's, Japanese researchers discovered a method for cultivating Reishi on a mass scale.
Now Red Reishi is readily available and can be found cultivated commercially in Japan, China, the US, and other parts of Asia.
After reading some of the more poetic and enthusiastic descriptions of this extremely rare mushroom (it has been harvested almost to extinction) that have accumulated over the centuries, one might get the impression that Reishi has an almost supernatural lure.
But if you look past that hype, there is an impressive and growing body of scientific research validating and substantiating many of these legendary properties.
Despite its lack of mainstream awareness in the United States and other Western countries, Reishi is the most well studied mushroom on the planet.
